The shirts depict “Handala,” a popular symbol of the Palestinian people. Handala was created by Naji Al-Ali, a Palestinian refugee and political cartoonist. Handala is a 10-year-old child, because Al-Ali was forced to leave his homeland at the age of 10. The artist said that Handala would begin to grow up only when he was able to return home. Handala stands with his back to the world because the global community turned its back on the Palestinian people. When Palestine is free, Handala will show his face to the world.
